Brain storm in the forecast!

One of the things I really want to incorporate with my home schooling is a monthly service project of some kind. I think these type of skills are so important. I talked a little bit about that a while back on my Delightful Sounds business blog. Click here to read the post.
Anyway, I'm looking to pick your brain a bit. I had thought of serving food at soup kitchens, volunteering to play with foster children at an orphanage/facility, collecting food or clothes for a shelter. I want this to be something fun that will help my children better appreciate their blessings while learning to help those around them. However, I also want it to be something appropriate for their age and experience level. I look forward to hearing your ideas!

  1. I am very interested in this as well. Jared and I take trips to Southeastern Guide Dog - to hug puppies and love on the older dogs getting ready to go to school. They provide a great service to the blind. That's a very fun way to volunteer, but I'm also looking for another way to introduce Jared to serving, so I look forward to hearing other ideas.

I've thought about taking him to a nursing home and visiting with an elderly person that doesn't get a lot of visitors. Will check back and see what other ideas people have!

  2. I have a small group we formed with a few other families....monthly a different family picks and plans the project. It is usually something simple...cookies to the nursing home, collecting Christmas Cards for a school teachers art project, collecting clothes for salvation army, etc. It spreads the work around! It's fun too. ;)

  3. The nursing home idea was brought up on Facebook as well. I think that would be so fun!
