Lessons in sensitivity

Well, I'm finding the importance of senstivity as we travel along on our homeschooling journey- Sensitivity to the ebb and flow in our daily activities, sensitivity to the level of difficulty, sensitivity to their level of interest. Because of this, I have made some adjustments to our routine.
Each weekend I now sit down and write out exactly what the girls will do each day. Each day's tasks must be completed by the end of the day, but if they want to work ahead they can. This has allowed some extra freedom where needed, while also adding in some structure to the schedule. I tend to be a free spirit when it comes to how I organize things, but I've had to become sensitive to the fact that my children are not always comfortable with that type of approach.
I also have made adjustments to my approach in reading and book reports. Some books and activities seemed to difficult and other things seemed to easy. This has put a lot more responsibility on me, but I feel like I am also getting to know my children so much better than I ever imagined possible.
We've also made some changes in our weekly schedule. I think everyone was feeling a little overloaded, so we have cut back on a couple of activities. It's been so exciting to see my children growing in their ability to recognize things they find frustrating and understanding how to come to me and find a solution. I think these lessons in sensitivity will be a key in our future successes.
