I arrived home this afternoon, after a 2 hour drive back from the Orlando area. I had been training some daycare facilities there in the ABC Music and Me curriculum. It was a great training, but I was tired and ready to check the girls' schoolwork and relax. I had just sent the girls out to feed the animals, when the youngest one came in yelling, "Mama, there's a snake in the chicken pen!" Here is what she found.
It's a yellow rat snake, which is non-poisonous. If you look closely, you'll even see the bulge where it had been eating my eggs from the hen house. Unfortunately, this one is a repeat offender, so I decided to remove it from the property. Don't worry, I didn't kill it. I figured an old timer like that deserved to keep on slithering somewhere. I was able to catch it and put it in this bucket. He may not look that big, but I can tell you it was as long as I am. He now lives about a mile away in an environmentally protected area, and I am hoping we don't have to meet again!Wednesday, November 18, 2009
