The week in review

We've had another busy week. We had our usual activities for school, gymnastics. and dance. It was also our first week of PE with our home school group, and we had another field trip. This time we visited the Florida Aquarium. We had an amazing time seeing all of the fish and other animals! We also began working on our first service project. We have a collection of necklaces that we will be selling for Call to Africa. These necklaces were hand-crafted out of paper, believe it or not, by women in Africa.

We found out more about this ministry last Sunday. It was Missions Sunday at church, and the guest speakers were Ken and Renata Galyean from Call to Africa. Their ministry is to reach the people of Africa with the love of Jesus Christ through church planting, street evangelism, assisting with dental and medical needs, and encouraging financial growth for the communities there. Renata, in particular, has tried to find ways to empower the women of Africa. Many of these women are widows due to the AIDS epidemic in Africa and are left without adequate means to support their family. She has helped them start businesses making clothing and jewelry. The profit from these items brings much needed resources to the community and families involved in making them.

If you are interested in purchasing a necklace, let me know. As you can see there are a variety of color schemes to choose from. The shorter necklaces are $10, and the longer ones, which can be doubled around your neck, are $15. Once we finish selling the necklaces, we will be able to donate 100% of the money back to Call to Africa.
