Joints

R has been studying anatomy in science, so we decided to build some joints as a fun experiment. Even Mom learned something on this one, since I had never thought of my skull as having immovable joints. Pictured below are our versions of the three types of joints.

1. Immovable Joints - skull pieces that fuse together
2. Semi-Movable Joints - spine
3. Movable joints - your arms, legs, hips, etc. We made a hinged joint for this one, but there are other types of movable joints too.
I think the hinged joint was her favorite. She made it "walk" and "reach" all over the place. If you'd like to build your own joints, we used pencils and a "bendy" straw, pieces of rubber and metal nuts, and foam stickers on paper. We hot glued the pieces together to help them hold up during our "movements". I'd love to hear about some of your favorite experiments!
